Screenwriting

After a career as a well-published researcher, award-winning teacher/mentor, and high-ranking academic administrator focused on developing programs to incubate successful interdisciplinary collaborations, I have returned to my love for creative expression. I have a particular passion for the stories of women who were instrumental in shaping American culture, which only deepened after moving to Santa Fe in 2024.

As a health communication researcher, I developed, implemented, and evaluated a number of health behavior change initiatives. Two of those projects involved writing a series of scripts for short animations focused on stroke symptom recognition and recovery as well as clinical trial participation. Those videos can be viewed on my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@SusanMochnacs

My first screenwriting project is a television pilot for a series called SANTA FE. The
logline: "When the Wild West collides with the Roaring Twenties, a fiercely independent community of artists, writers, and outsiders battles violent bandits, predatory developers, and corrupt politicians—ultimately reshaping American culture and forging “The City Different.”"

SANTA FE has been designated a Second Round selection of the International Screenwriters Association's (ISA) Diversity Initiative. I was also selected to participate in Stowe Story Labs' Conabarra Screenwriters' Retreat.

I am currently working on a second television series called FINDING THE LIGHT, a historical drama that centers on the story of an extraordinary woman who created important institutions in Santa Fe in the late 1800s.
