Welcome to my home on the web! I am Professor Emerita at the University of Miami, where I served as Associate Provost for Research as well as Vice Dean for Research and Creative Activity  and Full Professor for the School of Communication. I am fundamentally a quantitative social scientist who has employed mixed methods to develop, implement, and evaluate large (and small) scale interventions to improve health outcomes. I am currently finishing up over a decade of research on clinical trial communication, and formerly worked on organ donation public education campaigns, drug abuse prevention campaigns for at-risk youth, and persuasive message design principles and methodologies. If you are searching for survey research instruments or frequently requested articles, please click the Research tab.

After a 30+ year academic career, I have transitioned to other types of creative pursuits, particularly screenwriting. I write character-driven historical dramas that center women and queer communities whose lives have been erased, mythologized, or overlooked in American history—particularly in the American West. My work explores how marginalized people reshape culture from the edges of power, often in moments of social upheaval.
